Apple Pay arrives at CommBank & BankWest

The Commonwealth Bank and its lower cost subsidiary BankWest have launched Apple Pay.

Both brands are allowing your to add Credit and Debit cards to Apple Pay on iPhone or Apple Watch.

The banks have long supported competitor wallets and launched their own products like payment rings.

How to add cards on iPhone

  • Open the Wallet app and tap + sign in the upper right hand corner
  • Follow the prompts to add a new card
  • Enter the code received via SMS to verify yourself

How to add cards on Apple Watch

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Wallet & Apple Pay
  3. Follow the prompts to add a new card.
  4. Enter the code received via SMS to verify yourself

Commonwealth Bank has long held out on Apple Pay and along with NAB and Westpac tried to use their power to force Apple into collective bargaining. They failed and have sited their customer demand for their decision to support Apple Pay now.

ANZ was the first of the Big 4 banks to add Apple Pay back in 2016. Westpac and NAB are rumoured to be considering their options and may soon cave to the pressure to launch Apple Pay soon.
