Apple says bent iPad Pros are within tolerances

New reports are surfacing of brand new iPad Pros that are shipped with a slight bend but Apple says it is normal.

Dan Riccio, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, has stated that the bent devices meet or exceed all of Apple’s high quality standards of design and precision manufacturing.

The standards allow for up to a 400 micron variance (0.4 millimetres) in the flatness of the new iPad Pros. He also says the allowed variance is less than that of previous models.

If your iPad Pro is bent more than this out of the box you should take it back to Apple immediately for a replacement.

The latest generation iPads do seem to be a little less durable than previous models and Apple will charge to repair accidentally bent iPads.

This position from Apple is unlikely to silence the complaints and may lead to a Bendgate 2.0 controversy similar to the one that affected the iPhone 6.
