Apple has identified an issue with a limited number of 128GB & 256GB SSDs used in 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar).
The issue may result in data loss and failure of the drive. 13-inch MacBook Pro units with affected drives were sold between June 2017 and June 2018.
Repairs of affected devices will be repair free of charge. If you registered your MacBook Pro with Apple they will send you an email notifying you of the program.
How to check if you MacBook Pro is eligible?
- Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu ()
- Confirm your model is “MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports).”
- If you have that model, enter your computer’s serial number on Apple’s website to see if it is eligible for this program.
The program is available for 3 years after the date of purchase.
The repair process
The repair process will take at least a few hour and all data on your MacBook Pro will be erased.
It is critical that you backup your Mac prior to taking it in for service.
