The entry level iPad and ageing iPad mini are expected to be updated in the first half of this year.

Both of the new iPads are expected to benefit from lower production costs by moving display production from Japan to South Korea. It is unclear at this stage how this will affect retail costs.

Rumoured iPad mini 5

The iPad mini was last updated way back in September 2015 and over the last year has been rumoured to both be discontinued and refreshed.

The iPad mini 5 is expected to have an updated processor and use a lower cost display panel.

The rumour suggests that Apple will attempt to lower the cost of the iPad mini in order to reinvigorate iPad sales.

Rumoured Entry Level iPad

The iPad 9.7 inch is also expected to get an update which will included a processor bump and an increase in screen size to 10 inches. The update will also include a slimmer frame.

In 2017 and 2018 the entry level iPad was updated in March but the update is expected to be a little later this year.

The entry level iPad is slower, heavier and thicker than the iPad Pro but as of 2018 does support the Apple Pencil (original version).
