Possibly in preparation for Apple’s video streaming service Apple is allowing iTunes on competitor streaming devices.
The new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app will debut on Samsung Smart TVs in more than 100 countries. It will be available on 2018 Smart TVs via a firmware update and on 2019 Smart TV models.
The new app will allow you to access their Tunes library and browse the iTunes Store to buy or rent movies and TV episodes.
AirPlay 2 support will be available on Samsung Smart TVs in 190 countries worldwide. It will allow you to stream music, videos, photos and other content from your Apple devices to your Apple TV.
It is suspected that Apple is opening up their ecosystem in preparation for their upcoming video streaming service. The services is expected to launch this year in over 100 countries.
Apple has invested over 1 billion dollars in the service and widening it’s audience base to Samsung TVs will allow them to increase the services revenue potential.
It has also been rumoured that the service may be provided for free on some Apple devices allowing Apple to differentiate its products from those of Samsung.
